Thursday Jul 30, 2020
Getting to know a fellow Metalhead is a lot like dating: you have to ask the right questions to see if THEIR Metal is in alignment with YOUR Metal.
So, we decided it’d be fun to give everyone a more intimate view of what drives the Metal Nerdery magic by addressing some basic “Getting to Know You” style questions.
For example:
What’s the word about the Metal Nerdery nerds?
What is their backstory as it relates to Metal?
And for the love of Tony Iommi and all things Metal, WTF are ‘fart ghosts’?
So prepare (and enjoy) your favorite relaxer, tune out the outside world (maybe schedule a “lunch meeting” to block out your calendar) and JOIN US as we address the burning questions that EVERY Metalhead should be asking EVERY OTHER Metalhead across the entire planet!

047: Album Dive: Sepultura Beneath The Remains
Thursday Jul 16, 2020
Thursday Jul 16, 2020
1989. Brazil. Thrash Metal. Magic.
Sepultura’s “Beneath the Remains” is STILL a force to be reckoned with in the thrash metal community and really, the metal community at large. It is fast, heavy, thrashy and also, GROOVY! (That’s right. GROOVY!). Sepultura “raised the bar” with this album, bringing BOLTH groove and melody together with those amazing riffs, the breakneck speed and the incredibly complex, technical thrash choreography that PROVES this is the band’s “Master of Puppets” album moment.
So, go fix your favorite relaxer, turn off the outside world for an hour or so and JOIN US as we go through the BTR track list and talk about yet another GLORIOUS moment of “magical genius” in thrash metal.

046: Album Dive: Slayer Hell Awaits
Thursday Jul 09, 2020
Thursday Jul 09, 2020
“There’s just something about those first 2 Slayer records…”
1985. This was a time in history where Thrash Metal was quickly taking over the musical landscape and proving that things were about to get a whole lot darker, faster and heavier (and EVILER of course, much to the chagrin of the PMRC!).
Slayer’s 2nd album, ‘Hell Awaits’, had ALL of the necessary ingredients to make the quantum leap forward with their increasingly darker lyrical imagery and apocalyptic sonic palette.
So fix your favorite relaxer, turn off the outside world for an hour or so and JOIN US (or rather, SU NIOJ) as we dive into the album, the tracks, and of course any and all tangentionally related ‘Hell Awaits’ and Slayer factoids; including some which blew our hair back and some that were just fucking hysterious.

045: Album Dive: King Diamond Abigail
Thursday Jul 02, 2020
Thursday Jul 02, 2020
King Diamond.
Just seeing the name conjures all kinds of dark, creepy, diabolical imagery.
‘Abigail’ (which is King Diamond’s second solo album) is the first King Diamond album that truly captured his master horror storytelling craft, spinning tales of “living” haunted houses, betrayal and evil murderous zombie demon babies. It is by far one of THE most important concept albums EVER in the history of metal (and most certainly one of THE BEST horror stories ever told!).
So fix your favorite relaxer, block out an hour or so of your day and JOIN US as we dive into King Diamond’s ‘Abigail’ and go through the plot of the story, the various characters, the tracks and some of the eerie and “haunting” factoids about what very well may be one of the finest moments in the horror metal genre.

044: 30 Years of Metal Part 3 - Albums Turning 30 in 2020
Thursday Jun 25, 2020
Thursday Jun 25, 2020
On this episode we conclude our 3 part series on 1990: 30 Years of Metal, starting with the O’s. We went down the rabbit hole on a few topics and reminisced about some old show stories and other assorted flashbackery that activated the METAL NERDERY TIME TUNNEL and sent us back to our high school dimension. It’s been determined that for Generation X’ers, the 90’s was essentially OUR 70’s; especially as it relates to metal!!
Each decade, metal continues to get bigger and more badass, growing in power and intensity and evolving forward into realms of darkness and heaviness the likes of which should shake the very foundations of this world! Dare I say it: BALLTASTICALLY metal!!! Like with an extra infusion of balls: Super Scrotum Metal. (Okay, that’s kinda silly…). And even new genres that, at the time, we didn’t really consider (e.g. #punmetal, #beachmetal), but all that to say, the 90’s showed a next level evolution of metal that our Almighty Riff God Tony Iommi and the host of Riff Lords who shred among us have blessed us with. Don’t deny the power of…
So, JOIN US, prepare a bit of your favorite relaxer, settle into the METAL NERDERY TIME TUNNEL and come with us to 1990 for our final segment on 30 years in Metal.

043: 30 Years of Metal part 2 - Albums Turning 30 in 2020

Thursday Jun 18, 2020
Continuing with our 3 Part Series on 1990: 30 Years of Metal (Part 2 of 3), we get further into the list, starting with the F’s.***
1990 was a tremendous year for metal, including some of THE greatest Metal Albums of ALL TIME (Forbidden, Megadeth, Slayer…ummmm, YES PLEASE!!). The tidal wave of thrash everyone thought had crested and peaked in the late 1980’s actually plowed on through into the 1990’s, effectively forging a re-engineering of 80’s thrash metal to be even MORE brutally brutal and heavier than EVER in the 90’s.
And it TOTALLY fucking was!!
