SYSTEM OF A DOWN, the Glendale, California quartet who dominated the “Alt + Nu” metal landscape from 1998 to 2005 before going on hiatus, are one of the most uniquely incomparable & original bands of the early 2000s. AC/DC’s 1978 banger, POWERAGE (pronounced like voltage, amperage, and sausage; NOT like volt-AGE, amper-AGE, or saus-AGE) is undoubtedly one of “the most 1978 sounding” albums that has ever been released in rock and metal. And after giving it a listen, you’ll undoubtedly agree.
It’s the first album to feature Cliff Williams on bass, the first album to not have a title track and (perhaps most importantly) it’s the favorite AC/DC album of both Keith Richards and Edward Van Halen. Relative to the rest of their catalog, POWERAGE is quite simply an album beyond comparison.
Prepare to plug in “all three inputs” and remember that “you gotta bro up before you glow up” when talking to your “uncle cousin” (even if he “identifies as a noun”). Behold the advancements in “alien technology”, accept the “invitation” of embracing the uniqueness of the moment and JOIN US for the incomparable 1978-ness of AC/DC’s POWERAGE.

There’s some 70’s style stoner metal, some actual 1970’s stoner metal, some stoner metal that’s tuned down so low the strings are “flappin in the breeze”, and there’s even what some might refer to as stoner thrash metal. After touring a crapload for The Black Album and effectively unloading their classic thrash sound from the 80’s, METALLICA released LOAD in June of 1996 and RELOAD in November of 1997 (same sessions, different loads). The original intent was for “The Loads” to be released as a double album (aka “One Massive Load”), but since there was concern that so much new material released at once might be “too much to swallow”, potentially overloading fans, LOAD & RELOAD were released separately as two distinct loads, united as one.
While there are lingering hints of The Black Album era across both of “The Loads”, these 2 records sound like absolutely nothing else in the band’s entire catalog. Loaded up with various sonic experimentations, including 70’s classic rock, country, and even some slight stoner metal style riffs, “The Loads” are definitely a different flavor and texture for that little old thrash band from the Bay Area.
Get your relaxers ready because it’s time to “get swole” and find out which STD might help boost your self-esteem. Time to find yourself a nice “Icelandic chick”, take a load off, prepare to experience a very different version of METALLICA and JOIN US as we engage in the arduous task of BUILDING THE PERFECT LOAD.

In fact, it is easily the most progressive metal album of the early Dickinson era, with ½ the songs from this album being included on their 1985 “World Slavery Tour” concert souvenir, Live After Death.

In a way, you might say that DIVINE INTERVENTION, the 6th album from SLAYER (and the first with former Forbidden skins man Paul Bostaph behind the drumkit) was their moment of resurrection.
By the early 90’s, much of the pre-existing thrash landscape from the 80’s had either completely disappeared or radically transformed into a different non-thrash genre altogether. Naturally, SLAYER refused to compromise their sound or their mission statement and instead came back with a furious vengeance, even angrier, darker, and eviler than before.

“It’s the ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ of ‘Kill ‘em All’…”
Thanks to the “radio homogenization” resulting from the 1996 Telecommunications Act which prompted a handful of corporations to buy up all the radio stations and systematically destroy them by repeatedly violating our ear holes and airwaves with the same overrated, pre-programmed, 6-song playlist (like some Clockwork Orange style mind control experiment run amok), there are A LOT of songs out there that have been so completely overplayed into oblivion that we could do without EVER hearing them again EVER in life: whether live in concert or on the radio during the daytime…EVER!
But on the other hand, there are the more underrated deep cuts. The songs which disc jockeys with a genuine passion for music would often play whenever they wanted (yes, even in the daytime). Songs which got better over time and were never overplayed to the point of a listener’s disgust & scorn. Songs which are the antithesis of the ones referenced above in that we actually ENJOY hearing those songs and would prefer hearing them more often (like on the radio…during the daytime).
